bio
Kristina Fingerland is a visual artist working across drawing, objects, original texts, and installations. She studied Illustration and Graphic Design at UMPRUM, where she also completed an internship in the Sculpture Studio, and Painting at AVU and the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland.
Fingerland regularly exhibits both in the Czech Republic (MeetFactory, Display, Centre for Contemporary Art, Jiří Švestka Gallery, Entrance, Gampa) and internationally (EFA Project Space, New York; Detroit Kunsthalle, Norway; Hot Dock Project, Slovakia). She has taken part in several residencies, including the Egon Schiele Art Centrum, Naplaveno, and Offcity.
Her work has been included in the collection of the Gočár Gallery and in numerous private collections. Her textile installation is permanently displayed in the Atlas at Veletržní Palace of the National Gallery in Prague. In 2022, she received a creative scholarship from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
Fingerland has also produced a number of authorial books, such as Post Mortem and Oikos, and illustrated the participatory publication Seven Sisters from Moana Hebe with Marie Tučková, published by UMPRUM.
In her recent practice, she focuses on processing family trauma and healing intergenerational relationships, as well as mapping and archiving unique family rituals. Her work approaches the family as both a site of intimacy and a political instrument: a means to reimagine and transform traditional structures through imagination and critical reflection.
She collaborates with ideologically allied initiatives such as Druhá:směna and Institute of Anxiety, and is also engaged in pedagogical activities.
